World Bank WDI series BX.TRF.PWKR.DT.GD.ZS and BX.TRF.PWKR.CD.DT (current US$), edition last updated 2026-10-08, read from the World Bank API (api.worldbank.org/v2). Personal remittances are personal transfers plus compensation of employees (wages of seasonal and border workers), so they include more than family transfers. Tajikistan, % of GDP: 2008 44.1, 2013 43.8, 2019 28.0, 2021 32.7, 2022 49.9, 2023 37.8, 2024 47.2, 2025 57.7 (highest in the series since 2002). US$: 2019 2.32bn, 2022 5.35bn, 2023 4.63bn, 2024 6.80bn, 2025 10.18bn. The ranking covers economies with a 2025 value (regional and income aggregates excluded). Some economies lack 2025 data: Lebanon 33.3% (2023), Nicaragua 26.6% (2024), Bermuda 24.2% (2024), Marshall Islands 23.5% (2024), Liberia 21.3% (2024), Kyrgyz Republic 17.6% (2024), Haiti 16.9% (2024); none of these latest values is above Tajikistan's 2025 value. The Kyrgyz Republic was slightly higher than Tajikistan in 2019 (28.8%) and 2020 (31.8%). Not an all-time world record: Lesotho exceeded 100% of GDP in the 1980s in the same series. The 2025 jump is in US dollars and partly reflects a stronger Russian rouble (Interpretation). Lead and differences are progrss calculations.
