The rules, in plain words
What you can do with a progrss plate, for free and with a licence.
1. Free for everyone
- Share or link to any plate page, and embed the link on social media.
- Quote a plate's title or takeaways with credit "progrss.com".
- Teachers and students can show plates in class and in coursework.
- Not free: downloading or copying the chart image into your own publication, deck or product. That needs a licence.
2. What each licence covers
licencepriceyou canyou can't
Editorial$150 per plateUse one plate in one article, post, newsletter, broadcast segment or presentation. Edit size and crop; keep the chart and numbers unchanged.Use it in ads, products or paid client work.
Commercial$400 per plateUse one plate without limit inside your organisation and with your clients: reports, pitch decks, training, print and paid media.Resell or sublicense it, or use it in merchandise.

Custom platequotedRights agreed in writing for each commission. By default you get commercial use, and progrss may publish the plate after 90 days unless you opt out.
3. Credit
Every use credits the original data source, for example: Chart: progrss.com · Data: UN DESA, World Population Prospects 2024. Editorial use also credits progrss. Commercial and Library users may drop the progrss credit, never the data source.
4. Always off limits
- Changing the numbers, or the chart in a way that changes what it says.
- Reselling, sublicensing or giving away the files on their own.
- Claiming the plate as your own work, or implying progrss endorses you.
- Putting plates or their files into datasets for training AI models.
5. The data behind the plates
We license the plate: its design, selection and words, delivered as an image. We do not sell or supply the data itself. The underlying statistics belong to their publishers (UN, World Bank, IEA and others) and stay under their own terms. Some sources limit commercial reuse; we check each plate before we license it, and tell you if a source sets extra conditions.
6. Time, refunds and corrections
- Single-plate licences never expire for the use you bought them for.
- Library: work you published during your membership can stay up after it ends.
- Refund within 14 days if you have not downloaded the files.
- If we correct a plate, licensees get the corrected files by email.
