UNHCR Refugee Data Finder, read from the UNHCR population API (api.unhcr.org/population/v1/population/?coa_all=true), end-year figures; end-2025 figures are those of the Global Trends Report 2025 (published June 2026). Measure = refugees under UNHCR's mandate plus other people in need of international protection (UNHCR's headline host measure); Palestine refugees under UNRWA are not included. End-2025 (and end-2019): Colombia 2,812,242 (1,771,871); Germany 2,655,191 (1,146,682); Türkiye 2,390,414 (3,579,531); Uganda 1,936,719 (1,359,458); Iran 1,650,014 (979,435); Chad 1,502,263 (442,670); Pakistan 1,299,596 (1,419,596); Bangladesh 1,178,038 (854,779); Peru 1,104,802 (380,714); Ethiopia 1,010,466 (733,123). Chad's rank by year: 15th (2019), 16th (2022), 8th (2023), 7th (2024), 6th (2025); Chad 1,278,866 vs Pakistan 1,560,480 at end-2024, so the order flipped in 2025. On refugees alone (without other people in need of protection) Chad (1,502,263) is also ahead of Pakistan (1,159,038). Ranks and the 'more than triple' ratio (3.4×) are progrss calculations. UNHCR's Global Trends Report 2025 says nine in ten of Chad's refugees are Sudanese (1.3 million). In 2025 UNHCR began reporting part of Pakistan's (140,558) and Iran's (879,500) totals as other people in need of international protection, a category that was zero for both before. Pakistan's fall coincides with returns and deportations of Afghans: both readings are interpretation. Africa or South Asia among the 2025 top ten: Uganda, Chad, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia (Chad is on the UN list of Least Developed Countries). Licence: UNHCR data, CC BY 4.0.
